The LEZ calendar has moved up another notch: Euro 5 diesels, tolerated until the end of 2025, can no longer drive in the 19 municipalities. The grace period ended on 30 June 2026; since July, the cameras issue fines — €350 per offence, capped at one fine per quarter, which is the only good news.
In practice, buying your Euro 5 makes no sense for a Brussels resident anymore: they couldn't even drive it home. Listings pile up on second-hand sites, prices collapse, and meanwhile your road tax and insurance keep running.
One thing many people forget: Wallonia has no LEZ at all — the decree was scrapped in 2024. A car banned from the Pentagon still holds real value thirty kilometres away, and even more on the export market. That's the value we pay for.
