Lille's low-emission zone reaches into the Borinage

Since 2025, Belgian cars entering the Lille metropolitan area must display a Crit'Air sticker, just like French ones. The oldest diesels — Crit'Air 4 and 5, roughly pre-2006 — are already banned there, fines included. And the announced calendar targets Crit'Air 3, the 2006-2010 diesels, by 2028.

For a cross-border commuter, the maths is uncomfortable: the car still runs perfectly and is allowed everywhere in Wallonia — which has no LEZ at all — but its local resale value erodes as the deadline approaches. When everyone sells at once, prices will follow. These cars are worth the most right now, especially for export, where no sticker exists.
